The Seated Scribe strives to make artisan paperie that will inspire you to sit down and scribe a letter or a journal entry and reconnect with yourself and the people in your life. We also attempt to tread softly on the earth, therefore we use recycled and/or biodegradable materials whenever possible.
Seated Scribe note cards evolved from the artist/owner's interest in design, history and culture. The artist first researches a design in order to learn about the history and culture from which it sprang. The original designs come from relics, tile work, textiles and architecture. The artist uses the designs to render a drawing, which she then paints in watercolor. Each painting is scanned into the computer and edited to smooth out the final image. On the back of each card is historical information about the featured design.
In ancient Egyptian society, the role of the scribe was so important that Egyptian artists commonly sculpted or painted the image of a scribe, seated and engrossed in work. The name is an allusion to the act of sitting to scribe a letter as well as a nod to the ancient civilizations that inspired the designs.
